A flat drawstring has to suit the channel it runs in as much as the garment it belongs to. These six points let us quote and weave a first sample.
WIDTH AND THICKNESS
Finished width in millimetres and how substantial the string should feel. A wide flat string in a narrow channel binds instead of sliding.
CHANNEL SIZE
The finished width of the casing it runs through, so we can check the string moves freely once the garment is assembled.
CUT LENGTH
Finished length per piece, or bulk on rolls if your factory cuts in house.
END FINISH
Plain, knotted, or tipped. We run plastic tipping in house, so finished ends come as part of the same order.
COLOURWAY
Pantone TCX reference or a physical swatch. Send a swatch where the string is visible against a matched garment colour.
QUANTITY AND MARKET
Order quantity and destination market, which sets the compliance documents shipped with the goods.
Flat or round, and why the channel decides
A flat drawstring spreads its load across a wider face than a round cord, so it grips a knot better and is less inclined to cut into the fabric when pulled tight. That is why it is the usual choice for shorts, joggers and waistbands where the string is tightened often. Round cord wins where the string has to run through a small eyelet or hang visibly from a hood.
Because we make both, the choice does not decide the supplier. Drawstring and drawcord share a combined 60,000 yards a day across three categories and stay separate SKUs, so a range that uses flat strings on some styles and round cord on others is still one order. Everything ships from our own floor in Uttarkhan, Uttara — an 18,000 sq ft factory running 24 hours shift-wise with 30 office staff and 135 production workers.
Every lot is checked in our in-house lab against three ISO methods before dispatch — pH (ISO 3071), colour fastness to rubbing (ISO 105 X12) and colour fastness to water (ISO 105 E01). Drawstring sits inside our STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX certificate 2022OK1327, issued by AITEX under Product Class I — the strictest class, the one written for baby articles — valid to 31 May 2027, within the certified materials and colourways. Timing does not change with order size: a physical sample 4 working days from a confirmed spec, and bulk 10 days after you approve that sample.
Common questions
Is drawstring sold separately from drawcord?
Yes — they share a combined daily capacity figure but are separate SKUs. Order either or both on the same PO.
Can you add an aglet or tip to the ends?
Yes, send your target end finish and we will confirm feasibility before sampling.
What is the minimum order quantity?
We do not publish a fixed MOQ — we quote against your actual spec and quantity.
