Knit elastic is chosen for how it feels rather than how hard it holds, so the garment matters more than the numbers do. These six points let us quote and knit a first sample.
WIDTH
Finished width in millimetres.
SOFTNESS TARGET
Whether the tape sits against bare skin, over a lining, or inside a bound edge. This decides yarn choice more than anything else on the list.
ELONGATION
Stretch percentage and required recovery. Underwear and activewear linings usually want lighter tension than a structured waistband.
COLOURWAY
Pantone TCX reference or a physical swatch. White and disperse-dyed polyester are both standard.
FINISH
Standard knit edge, or a specific bound or picot finish where the tape is visible on the outside of the garment.
QUANTITY AND MARKET
Order quantity and destination market, which drives the compliance documents shipped with the order.
Where knit elastic is the right call
Knit elastic is built on a knitting machine rather than a loom, which gives a more open, lighter structure with softer edges. It resists rolling less well than a woven build, so it is the wrong choice for a stiff trouser waistband and the right one wherever the tape touches skin directly. Underwear, bralettes and activewear linings account for most of what we knit.
At 50,000 yards a day this is the highest-capacity elastic we make, ahead of jacquard at 25,000 and woven at 20,000. Everything ships from our own floor in Uttarkhan, Uttara — an 18,000 sq ft factory running 24 hours shift-wise with 30 office staff and 135 production workers.
Every lot is checked in our in-house lab against three ISO methods before dispatch — pH (ISO 3071), colour fastness to rubbing (ISO 105 X12) and colour fastness to water (ISO 105 E01). Knit elastic sits inside our STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX certificate 2022OK1327, issued by AITEX under Product Class I — the strictest class, the one written for baby articles — valid to 31 May 2027. Coverage is limited to the certified materials and colourways, so send your spec and we will confirm it against your exact construction. Timing does not change with order size: a physical sample 4 working days from a confirmed spec, and bulk 10 days after you approve that sample.
