What a barcode sticker manufacturer needs to get scans right
A barcode either scans first time at checkout or it becomes somebody’s problem in a store. These six points are what decide which.
SYMBOLOGY
EAN-13, UPC-A, Code 128 or a QR/2D code, and the retailer standard it has to satisfy. Send the standard, not just the numbers.
DATA FILE
The full SKU list as a spreadsheet, with the quantity required per code. Variable data is the whole job on this product.
SIZE AND MAGNIFICATION
Finished sticker size and the required bar height and magnification. Shrinking a code below its standard is the most common cause of scan failure.
SUBSTRATE AND SURFACE
Paper or synthetic face stock, and what it sticks to — a card hangtag, a poly bag or the garment packaging. Adhesive is chosen from the surface.
HUMAN-READABLE TEXT

Why quiet zones and contrast decide the job
Almost every barcode that fails at a till fails for one of two reasons. Either the quiet zone — the clear margin either side of the bars — was eaten by artwork placed too close, or the contrast between bars and background was reduced by printing dark bars on a coloured or transparent base. Both are decided at artwork stage and neither is fixable once the stock is printed, which is why we check them before sampling rather than after.
Barcode stickers usually ship as part of a set with hangtags and packaging, and we make those on the same site, so sticker size and tag face can be checked against each other rather than assumed. Everything ships from our own floor in Uttarkhan, Uttara — an 18,000 sq ft factory running 24 hours shift-wise with 30 office staff and 135 production workers.
Timing does not change with order size: a physical sample 4 working days from a confirmed spec, and bulk 10 days after you approve that sample. There is no fixed MOQ published — we quote against your actual spec and quantity. We have exported to more than ten European markets since 2014.
